July is usually a quieter month for crypto trading, with less action as many big investors take summer breaks. However, that wasn’t the case this year. In July 2025, Bitcoin stayed surprisingly stable around $118,000, despite the massive $9 billion sell-off, while Ethereum soared over 50% fuelled by record-breaking ETF inflows and rising interest from big investors. Together, these moves helped push crypto trading volume up by 52%, breaking the usual summer slump.
According to data presented by CryptoPresales.com, cryptocurrency exchange trading volume hit over $1.7 trillion in July, 52% more than in the same month last year.
Four of the First Seven Months in 2025 Posted Double-Digit Growth in Trading Volume
After ending 2024 with an average monthly trading volume of over $1.5 trillion, the second-highest ever, crypto exchanges had rollercoaster ride in 2025. Trading volumes swung sharply from month to month, showing how unpredictable the crypto market can be. But despite the big price moves and market volatility, crypto trading volume still soared to $9.36 trillion in the first half of the year, the highest H1 figure since 2021. Moreover, four of the first seven months saw double-digit growth, signaling renewed investor interest.
According to data from The Block, crypto exchanges processed $2.32 trillion in transactions in January, or 103% more than in the same month last year. The positive momentum continued in February which saw $1.77 trillion in crypto trades, up 52% year-over-year. However, this trend cooled down in March, when trading volume plunged by 41% amid growing investor caution, regulatory pressure, and macroeconomic uncertainty. April followed with $1.28 trillion in crypto trades, 19% less than in the same month a year before. But May reversed the trend, as bullish sentiment returned on the back of pro-crypto policies from the Trump administration and rising institutional interest, pushing volumes up 19% year-over-year to $1.47 trillion. After a flat June at $1.1 trillion, trading activity surged again in July, rising by 52% to over $1.7 trillion. Overall, crypto exchanges processed just over $11 trillion in trades during the seven months of 2025, or 12% more compared to the same period a year ago.
The Strongest July Ever for Crypto Exchanges
The $1.71 trillion in July’s crypto exchange trading volume is even more impressive when compared to historical data. Statistics show that last month was the strongest July ever for crypto exchanges, surpassing even the previous high from 2024. In comparison, July 2025’s volume is 55% higher than the $1.1 trillion reported in July 2024 or in July 2024, 272% above July 2023 ($459 billion), and nearly 700% more than in the same month of 2020 ($216 billion).
